DODONI’s dairy products now come with GDA info and labelled “Made with 100% Greek milk”.
DODONI S.A. has announced that the packaging of all its dairy products will include nutritional details using the GDA (Guideline Daily Amounts) system. All its varieties of fresh milk and yoghurt, regardless of the size of the package, are now on sale with this information to help ensure consumers are better informed.
The GDA system lets consumers know exactly what they are consuming and helps them understand the role each type of food plays in their daily diet so that they can change their habits and adopt a more healthy lifestyle. The GDA system provides the following information: a. How many calories and how much sugar, fat, saturated fat and salt are contained in each portion of the food they consume and b. What proportion of their daily required intake of these nutritional elements is covered by consuming one portion.
The Guideline Daily Allowance (GDA) system of nutritional information has been scientifically validated by the World Health Organisation and is widely used in developed nations as part of the battle to beat obesity and encourage people to adopt a healthier way of life. GDA information is required by law in the USA, Australia, Canada and certain Anglo-Saxon countries. It is included on packaging on a voluntary basis in the rest of the European Union, including Greece, where the system is being introduced gradually by pioneering companies in preparation for the date it becomes compulsory.
In the meantime, the packaging of all of DODONI’s dairy products has now been adapted to comply with a new market regulation issued by the Ministry of Development. This regulation requires all those active in the production, import and distribution of milk products to display clearly on packaging the country of origin of the milk used.
The regulation will come into effect on 1/11/2009, when it will become COMPULSORY for companies which use Greek milk to label their packaging with the words "Made with 100% Greek milk" or, if foreign milk has also been used, to indicate what proportion of the milk used has been imported.
DODONI supports consumers’ right to know where any milk used comes from so that they can assess the freshness and quality of the dairy products they have chosen to consume. All the company’s dairy products are marked “PRODUCT OF EPIRUS” (IPIROTIKO) so that consumers know they are buying something with the superb natural characteristics found in products that come from the pure unpolluted landscape of Epirus.
